Joyce introduces us to the “C” class bears and their wonky ways. They are a group of five dysfunctional messed up bears with some serious issues. In Bad Bear book one we are introduced to a nerdy gal from the south and a scarred hunk of a bear searching for his mate. This is Matt Barns and Willamena Madden’s story and you don’t want to miss one word of it!
Matt was taken by the IESA when he was a child and tortured for years. His bear has grown restless and he fears he is going to go crazy and have to be put down. Finding his mate would help sate his bear and calm him. When he meets Willamena sparks fly. Willa isn’t the type to be pushed around. Her friends from high school and her had made a pact to travel after graduating from college to a fun place to celebrate their success. However, over the years the ladies grew apart but still stayed in contact. They trick Willa into visiting Saratoga so that they can get it on with a werebear! The bombshells, her three friends treat her like an ugly stepsister. So when she finally has enough, a new friendship buds with Matt.
I really enjoyed this new series. The five bear shifters that make up this werebear group are unique and different from previous reads from Ms. Joyce. They seemed more disturbed, broken and anti-social. Although they have bonded with each other to form the Gray Back Crew, they are loners. We first met Matt in Timberman Werebear when he kisses Danielle (Denison’s human mate), so we know he’s a player and likes to live on the edge. Willa is a totally unexpected opposite to Matt, and she instantly has him laughing and enjoying life. This was a fun, relaxing read and welcome addition to my library.

I am so glad I stumbled onto T.S. Joyce's Gray Back Bear Series. I really enjoyed this book. A lot of romance and just a touch of sexual content that lets you imagination run away with the perfect lovin' from your bear.
I am always looking for good shifter romance and here it is. There is a lot of story in a short book. I really like the idea of the "crews" as it seems to make sense that bears would live in small groups and not be such loaners. I really like the characters and I imagine I will learn more about them as I read more about the Gray Back Crew.
I am happy to recommend this book to paranormal s***er lovers everywhere. There is a lot to enjoy. I think one of my neighbors may belong to a crew......enjoy the read.
KUDOS T.S. JOYCE ON S TALE WELL TOLD.
This was very intense from the beginning. Willamina (Willa) was suppose to be on vacation with friends from Jr high school, they had made a pack to go to the beach after graduation from college. They sooner arrive at Sammy's bar they dump her. Not only that they were insulting her and making fun of her in front of strangers (shifters). She was really hurt almost ready to cry when Matt bear shifter took an interest. He brought her a drink to start and her so called friends started belittling her. She got very drunk and Matt drove her to her camper outside of town. Before Matt and Willa realized that they were mates. She got along with all the Gray Bears and her vacation week was just over and she had to decide if she was going leave or stay. I was really shocked what happens before the final decision.
I am so glad Ms Joyce is writing this series. We met some of these guys in the Saw Back series and it just seemed wrong the didn't get their own books.
Matt, bad boy Matt. We learned some of his horrible history in the last book of Saw Bears when he matched his adopted sister. Now it is Matt's turn and he finds Willa. She's not the hot number Matt usually dates which makes his attention seem like a prank or worse. She doesn't know his past, she doesn't believe in herself enough that such a hot guy could want her.
Matt has softer side, it's was fun watching it come out. Willa's interaction with the Greybacks, who clearly do not want her in their living space. But Matt does want her and she makes a real effort to be accepted. The group reaction to her is far different then the other group but they have an unexpected reaction.
If you have not read her Saw Bears series, but like shifter books this one is a good way to start. A good satisfying read. I loved it and will get each book in the series as soon as they come out. Although I use Unlimited, I've learned with TS Joyce books to just go ahead and buy the book because I will end up doing so anyway so I can reread them again.
Gray Back Bad Bear is the first book in the Gray Back Bears series and is Matt’s story. We met Matt in the Saw Bears series.
The heroine in this story is a human named Willa who lacks self confidence and acts juvenile and immature. Matt has always been a bit of a cocky jerk, so it didn’t feel natural for him to be attracted to Willa. With the more time they spend together, we are shown a softer side to Matt that hasn’t been seen before. It became more clear why he and Willa are mates.
It seems that with each new book I read by this author, the stories are getting shorter and shorter. This is a shame because although the titles are a bit cheesy, these are easy to read shifter stories where I genuinely like the characters enough to be invested and want to witness them finding their mates. A lot of the action occurs off the page and we are left with the result. Even their romance feels like it mostly happens off the page. I’ll stick with this series a little longer, but I’m afraid this may be the last series I read by this author.
